Everything Changes

Sonny’s dad passed at 43
Sonny’s mom moved the family as far as they could go
Looking for a better hand
Sonny grew up near power lines
Watched the cars go by and he wished that could leave
Always Dreaming of bigger plans
All the treetops shift under the wind
Sometimes breaking mostly straight again
And back again
Everything changes
Nothing is sacred anymore
We’re all just staring in the mirror
Wishing we saw what we adored
Caroline dreams in black and white
Writes her poems by candlelight with music on
Hoping that they’re found out
Her brother robbed the hardware store
Wrecked her car he stole to get away
Thinking the man’s trying keep him down
All the treetops shift under the wind
Sometimes breaking but mostly straight back again
Everything changes
Nothing is sacred anymore
We’re all just staring in the mirror
Wishing we saw what we adored
It’s serious enough to fret about
It’s hard enough not to bend
Test the timber of these hearts and find
It's all we have, it's all we have

Time to Time

I still dream that you come and visit me
when you do I can not speak your name
You are always staring at the darkness that's around you
When I wake I never know what that means
You still pop up in my mind from time to time
But when you do you’re harder to see
It’s like I’ve taken sleeping pills to pass the days
It’s like your walking backwards away from me
I still stay out late to calm my nerves
Somehow all the noise just fades away
Always staying up while every bar around me is closing
But sleeping in don’t come so easily

Good Enough

Tell me that you see it in my eyes
I’m not really trying
In the backseat of car
All I want is simple conversations
Maybe a stay-cation
We don't have to go real far
But that ain’t good enough for you
I just got my heart to stop it's bleeding
Packed away my secrets
Went and hid them in a jar
All you want is something to hold faith
A trophy you can show off
What you got ain’t good enough
